Naturopathic Medicine
The best of modern science and natural therapies, Naturopathic medicine is a holistic system of family healthcare that blends the wisdom natural therapies with conventional medical standards. Naturopathic physicians specialize in promoting health and wellness and in preventing disease.
Naturopathic Medical Education
Naturopathic physicians (NDs) are trained as general family practitioners at accredited naturopathic medical schools. Like conventional medical schools, these four-year doctoral programs provide an education in the basic medical sciences and modern diagnostic and treatment methods. Extensive coursework in naturopathic principles and therapies is combined with supervised, outpatient clinical rotations to complete the training in comprehensive family healthcare.
Naturopathic Credentialing
Naturopathic physicians have been licensed to practice in Vermont since 1996. In order to obtain a license, naturopathic physicians must graduate from an accredited naturopathic medical school and pass national licensing exams. NDs must complete regular continuing medical education to maintain their licenses.
